Compounding documentation for British Columbia pharmacies
Requirements for pharmacies in British Columbia are set by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia. The College adopted the national model standards for sterile compounding, and its Standards for Sterile Compounding came into effect on July 4, 2022. Our service covers non-sterile compounding only.
Non-sterile compounding in BC
Before any BC project starts, we confirm with you what the College currently requires for non-sterile compounding, and we write to that. Where a pharmacy also wants documentation that follows the national model standards, such as a risk assessment and a master formulation record for each preparation and a set of written procedures, we prepare it the same way we do for pharmacies in provinces that have adopted those standards.
What we prepare
- Master formulation records: one per preparation, with the formula, method, quality controls and a referenced beyond-use date
- Risk assessments: a documented assessment for each preparation, with the reasoning written down
- Policies and procedures: written procedures built from a gap analysis of your pharmacy
National standards are being revised
NAPRA consulted on a new model document for non-sterile compounding in early 2026. It is still a draft, and each regulator will decide how to use the final version. Where the draft stands
